Sunoco Chemicals’ acquisition by Braskem S.A.
Ricardo Levy

We are pleased to announce that Braskem, the largest thermoplastic resin producer in the Americas, has acquired the polypropylene operation of Sunoco Chemicals.

This transaction is another step in implementing Braskem’s international expansion and growth strategy, along with other recent movements such as the merger of Quattor in Brazil and greenfield projects in Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.

Braskem’s decision to invest in industrial assets in the United States demonstrates its commitment to the U.S. market and to continue growing from the Sunoco Chemicals’ asset base. We believe that this acquisition will make an invaluable contribution to Braskem’s and Sunoco Chemicals’ customer base.

Braskem will continue to operate Sunoco Chemicals’ headquarter in Philadelphia, PA, its three plants in La Porte, TX; Marcus Hook, PA and Neal, WV and its technology center in Pittsburgh, PA. Especially the technology center will play a crucial role in providing technical support services and product innovations for our customers.

Our focus on direct and strong relationship with customers and the commitment to continually improve customer service remain part of Braskem’s core values, aiming to establish long-term partnerships within our value chain.

The acquisition of Sunoco Chemicals and the resulting synergies provide new opportunities for Braskem’s and Sunoco Chemicals’ customers in North America by offering a complete portfolio of products and services. The PP grades produced by Braskem in the United States will effectively complement those grades it already imports into the country, creating new business opportunities for meeting your company’s demand.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and make myself available to provide any assistance you may need.
